Claesson Koivisto Rune’s New Pals

Nobis Hotel – Stockholm’s latest first class hotel – opened in late 2010.

“Located in two historic late 19th-century buildings on Norrmalmstorg square in the heart of downtown Stockholm, Nobis Hotel is an independent 201-room hotel offering every convenience and service any business and/or pleasure traveler could ever call for, in an environment of casual elegance. Our mission is to provide our guests with nothing but superior quality in every detail — plus something more in addition to that. We like to think that nothing in our hotel is standard or routine, but always with something extra to add quality to our guests’ experiences.

Nobis Hotel has been designed for optimal function, beauty, comfort and atmosphere by world renowned Swedish star architect studio Claesson Koivisto Rune, in a style of contemporary yet timeless and classic, durable elegance, mainly in natural materials of superior quality, subtly influenced by the colors, moods and features of our Swedish Royal Capital.” (source: nobishotel.com

The hotel’s 201 rooms are of varying sizes and one of the challenges for Claesson Koivisto Rune and OFFECCT was to develop an easy chair that would fit well in the larger as well as in the smaller rooms.

After some intense research and development the easy chair Pal is now being launched, combining two chairs in one in a cunning way. Depending on where the legs are mounted Pal can either be a larger and lower chair with a lounge character, or a smaller chair with a higher backrest.

The inspiration behind the name Pal simply comes from the English word for a friend – or a pal.

”When we saw the two versions next to each other, we realized that they reminded us of a nice couple or two very good friends who in a good way completes each other,” says Eero Koivisto.

The OFFECCT Prize Laureate #1: Daniel Johansson

Yesterday we handed out OFFECCT Priset (the OFFECCT Prize) to Daniel Johansson for his thesis Urban Corridors – a Stockholm Fantasy. The 2010 nominees were – besides Johansson – Anneli Åhlén, Anna Jacobson, Karl Johan Nyqvist & Daniel Sundlin and Caroline Csemiczky.

OFFECCT Priset is established to reward a young promising architectural student at the School of Architecture at KTH, Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden, in our ambition to promote the next generation of architects.

The selection of the five nominated architect students’ theses have been made by a competent and renowned jury led by Thomas Sandell. This year’s jury consisted of Thomas Sandell from sandellsandberg, Bolle Tham and Martin Videgård from Tham & Videgård Arkitekter, Anna Pang from KTH and Patrik Persson from OFFECCT. The jury’s statement reads:

“The project Urban Corridors – a Stockholm Fantasy is a challenging and thought-provoking architectural project. It has its origins in a historical analysis of the emergence of Stockholm where the relationship between land and water has constantly been changed by man as well as nature.

The project proposes the development of Stockholm under the water surface in submerged structures. Powerful images communicate this possible future and jump-start the viewer’s imagination.

The project moves between reality and fiction and discusses what architecture could be.

A very convincing, conscious and visionary project that leaves us with the idea that what is fantasy today is reality tomorrow.”

Below are some pictures from the well attended and appreciated prize ceremony.

Grand Opening and Inside Information

2009 was a good year for OFFECCT, with exciting new products, increased sales worldwide, and showrooms established in Stockhom and Oslo. 2010 is looking very promising, and what better way to celebrate OFFECCT’s 20th anniversary  – as well as the start of the 2010 edition of the Stockholm Design Week – than to open up an exhibtion of Italian designer Luca Nichetto’s designs in our Stockholm showroom?

OFFECCT Stockholm Showroom Luca Nichetto

We will soon present Luca’s work in more detail in a separate blog post, but everyone present at tonight’s opening was impressed by the innovative character of Luca’s designs.

We are truly happy that tonight’s exhibition was well-attended, especially so since so many of our appreciated designers gave the audience a first glimpse of their novelties.  Today we had the opportunity to listen to – besides Luca Nichetto – Eero Koivisto, Patrick Norguet, Björn Dahlström, Monica Förster, Ingunn Eikeland Bjørkelo and Carlos Tiscar presenting their work, and we will share our impressions in future blog posts.

We have started the OFFECCT blog so that we can give you some more insights into the work of our designers as well as sharing our core values and driving forces behind our company. So please make sure that you will return to this blog, and a nice way to make sure that you wont miss out on any inside information is to follow us on Twitter. Just add us on twitter.com/offecct and “we will get back to you.”
