Airberg by Jean-Marie Massaud featured on Dezeen

Dezeen’s article about Studio can be found here >>

Airberg, which has come out of our new initiative OFFECCT LAB, is an innovative piece of furniture that breaks with conventions. The inspiration behind the form of Airberg is a combination of a comfortable, inviting piece of seating furniture and an iceberg filled with vacuum. The furniture’s abstract form is light in its expression and Airberg is contemporary both in its design and in the technique used.

Airberg consists of a structural case which gives the impression of being filled with a vacuum, but is in reality filled with a flexible padding material. The unique craftsmanship used in the production of Airberg makes it possible to create a deconstructed piece of furniture that is more defined in its asymmetry. Jean-Marie Massaud has created a piece of furniture that is comfortable, sustainable and competent, making it highly contemporary.

Flexible Interiors With ISLANDS

We are currently showcasing our new products in Milan, and one of them is Jean-Marie Massaud’s Islands. Islands is a system of seating furniture that creates the feeling of small islands or coral reefs and provides space for informal meetings, while shielding the people sitting on an ”island” from those sitting on the adjacent ”islands” with the help of different materials and different heights.

OFFECCT-Islands-2

Islands by Jean-Marie Massaud

This feeling can also be enhanced by plants placed at designated spaces in the furniture. Different seating levels and different materials give the furniture flexibility and do not lock the user to a certain behavior.

With Islands Jean-Marie Massaud wants to reformulate public interiors such as waiting areas and lobbies. In order to achieve this Massaud has created a flexible and functional furniture system that easily can be adjusted to different surroundings and contexts.

OFFECCT_Islands-3

- Islands is not a classical piece of seating furniture; it is more abstract with different parts that together form an entirety. It stands for innovation, says Jean-Marie Massaud.

Massaud’s designs are characterized by an understanding of the surrounding world and he creates designs through a holistic approach that captures the zeitgeist in an interesting way. Massaud has been named Designer of the Year several times and has worked with companies such as Cacharel, Lancôme and Renault.

Light Seating in the Form of NETFRAME

Currently on exhibition in Milan is our new sofa and easy chair Netframe, designed by the duo Cate & Nelson. Cate & Nelson’s idea behind Netframe was to create a piece of furniture that consumes as little material as possible while maintaining a high comfort.

OFFECCT_Netframe

Netframe by Cate&Nelson

- In order to succeed with this challenge we had to turn everything upside down in the development process. We wanted it to be easy to produce with minimal time and material usage, says Nelson Ruiz-Acal, one half of Cate & Nelson.

Netframe was developed into a very comfortable piece of furniture with extremely low impact on the environment. Cate & Nelson believe it is important to see the wholeness in their design, that the product is responsible at all stages; from production to usage, which is very apparent in their design of Netframe.

The design duo Cate & Nelson consists of the Swedish designer Cate Högdahl and Spanish Nelson Ruiz-Acal. Cate & Nelson were educated at the Europeo di Design in Madrid and are based in London but also represented in Spain and Sweden. Their designs are distinguished by sustainability and a continental approach.

Jean-Marie Massaud innovates with AIRBERG

Airberg by Jean-Marie Massaud is currently being presented to visitors at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan. Airberg is an innovative piece of furniture that breaks with conventions, and one of the first results that come out of the work at Offecct Lab, our strategic initiative designed to concentrate our efforts in the development of new solutions and new products.

Airberg is not ready for production yet, but should be seen as a result of an ongoing research and development process where Offecct and Jean-Marie Massaud dared to develop a piece of seating furniture for the meeting places of the future.

Luca Nichetto Creates Continuity with the Sofa LINEA

One of the novelties currently on exhibition at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan is Luca Nichetto’s Linea. The original idea to the sofa Luca Nichetto got from The Line, an Italian animated TV-show he used to watch as a child. With this inspiration Nichetto wanted to create a sofa with a back, when combined in greater numbers, forms a line that creates continuity.

OFFECCT_Linea.simple

The possibility to combine modules to a greater entirety gives architects and interior designers the opportunity to play with the product and its lines. The sofa is available in two sizes; two or three seater. Small tables link the sofas together and provide functionality. This makes Linea adaptable and possible to use in large as well as small rooms.

The development of Linea demanded intensive work in order to find the right proportions that could create the above mentioned continuity. The result is a piece of furniture with proportions that wander between a sofa and a bench, landing somewhere in between.

Jean-Marie Massaud has designed several products for us this year. One of them is Islands, a system of seating furniture for public interiors such as waiting rooms and lobbies.

To do this Massaud created a flexible and functional furniture that can be easily adapted to the surrounding environment.

Islands creates a feeling of small islands or coral reefs and provides spaces for informal meetings. The design of Islands, tables and seating areas in different heights, ensures that people sitting on one island are shielded or cut off from people on another island, thereby providing intimacy. This feeling can further be heightened by installing plants at different places in the construction.

Cate&Nelson believe it is important to see the wholeness in their design, that the product is accountable in all steps from production to usage.
