We have initiated a new collaboration with Swedish designer Louise Hederström for 2012 year’s product launch. Louise Hederström is based in Malmö in southern Sweden. She has a degree from Beckmans College of Design in Stockholm, where she was tutored by renowned Swedish designer Björn Dahlström. She has also studied at the University of Lund.

New OFFECCT Designer: Louise Hederström

In her designs, Hederström always tries to departure from a specific need, regardless if she is working with lighting, furniture or accessories. Furthermore, Hederström likes to work graphically, and to create expressions in a room. She tries to challenge her own creativity and the material she works with. All materials are interesting and often it is the possibilities provided by the material that determine the form and function of the final product.

Her designs have a playful yet clear character and invite the user to a close contact with the object. She has been creating for as long as she can remember, and has always been interested in understanding how objects are composed and function. Louise Hederström received the prestigious Estrid Ericsson scholarship in the beginning of the 2000s. She has also received the Blueprint Design Award at the London Design Festival. Hederström has previously worked with bsweden, among others.

This year some of our products are the fruits of new collaborations with innovative designers. LÄUFER + KEICHEL is a creative partnership between Julia Läufer and Marcus Keichel. The pair has been working together since 2003. Their studio is located in the heart of Berlin. Focusing on sustainable design solutions, their disciplines range from furniture design and industrial design, through exhibition to corporate and communication design. Their work has been internationally exhibited, published and awarded.

New OFFECCT Designers: LÄUFER + KEICHEL

JULIA LÄUFER was born in Freiburg in the South of Germany. She studied fashion and textile design at St. Martin’s School of Arts in London, and at the University of the Arts in Berlin. During her studies she worked at Christian Dior in Paris, Apropos in Zürich and at the Stadttheater in Freiburg. Later on, she was a product manager for the fashion label Street One. She also had spells as a camera assistant and assistant
director, including projects with Serge Roman and Stanley Kubrick. After these experiences, Julia went back to working in the design field as an art director in communication before founding the studio with Marcus.

MARCUS KEICHEL was born in Frankfurt/Main. He studied industrial design, architecture and cultural studies at the University of the Arts in Berlin. After graduating, he worked as a freelance product and communication
designer before setting up the studio, Läufer + Keichel, with Julia. Since 2008 Marcus is also a guest professor at the University of the Arts in Berlin.

LÄUFER + KEICHEL in their own words: “Designing sustainable Things”

We search for ways to create sustainable relationships between people and the objects they use. When designing, there are two particular things on which we focus: the expression of the object and its utility. We believe that the successful synthesis of these aspects creates an object that transcends fleeting fashions and the tendency to dispose of things quickly.

We consider our objects as tools to enhance the management of daily activities. However, the objects are also symbols, of the ideals that influenced their conception or the traditions to which their design might allude.

People communicate through the objects they use and own. So design can have a profound effect on human relationships and the way people behave towards one another. Accordingly, we are committed to an inclusive aesthetic, one that corresponds to the humane values of democracy and an open society.

New products may not only signify some change in society, they may indeed be the impetus for such change. While developing new ideas we seek to balance creative innovation with a respect for established cultural norms. We believe the key to cultural progress lies in respecting traditional design mores while also maintaining an awareness of people’s inherited patterns of perception.

Offecct product line Playback was previously certified by Möbelfakta, and we are happy to see the group of certified products grow. The environmental requirements of Möbelfakta are based on criteria from the Council of Environmental Control (Miljösyrrådet), the technical requirements are based on established European as well as international standards (EN and ISO), and the requirements of social responsibility are based on principles set by the United Nation’s Code of Conducts. The criteria for Möbelfakta are continuously reviewed to always match the highest and latest standards.

Möbelfakta fills an important gap in the furniture industry, namely a reference and labeling system of furniture that includes the three aspects of quality, environment and social responsibility all in one.

#offecct #khodifeiz #design

We are proud to present the first of the new products this year: MOMENT by Khodi Feiz.

Moment by Offecct and Khodi Feiz

MOMENT is an easy chair that supports different activities, apart from sitting, such as snacking, reading a newspaper or working, thanks to the little table attached on the side. In short, the easy chair invites you to take a moment in the chair to do something you like.

Moment by Offecct and Khodi Feiz

When designing MOMENT, Feiz was originally inspired by old school desks made up of a wooden chair with a table attached on the side. This design gave Feiz the idea to design an easy chair supporting more activities than just sitting.

“Observing those “moments” which we engage in while seated was the key inspiration for this project. Noticing that we rarely “just sit”, we started to reflect on all the activities we do while sitting: all the moments that we read, we drink a cup of coffee, we work, we engage in conversation… ‘Moment’ was born out of these situations.”

Khodi Feiz

In his design, Feiz works from the three concepts Clarity, Concept, and Context, which is obvious also in the design of MOMENT. The easy chair has a clear design language, strong concept and high adaptability to different settings.

“The design is based on a generous flowing cup shape, supporting your body, which gently transforms into a small articulating table opening up for a surface for your coffee and closing in front of you when you want to work. This opening and closing gesture also reinforces the notion of private and public, almost suggesting to others that you are available for conversation or you are busy with work, a social gauge, if you will. “

MOMENT will be presented in Offecct’s stand A20:20 at the Stockholm Furniture Fair between February 7 and February 11 2012 together with a number of new products. Welcome!

Below you will find some interesting pictures from the development process; as well as a number of photos of the finished product.

Here at OFFECCT we take pride in our high delivery performance. For the year of 2011 it was as high as 98.6%. This means that our customers can be sure that their products will arrive on time, and they never have to worry.

The process begins when the customer places an order with us. From this date it takes 3-5 weeks for us to prepare the product ordered, depending on the quantity and what product it concerns. At this stage the customer is given the date of delivery.

Once the order is prepared for shipping, we contact the customer letting him know that the product is being shipped, and give him the number code which allows him to follow the package at all times.

In the rare event of delay we contact the customer with a new date of delivery; the customer never has to call us to make delivery controls.

One of OFFECCT’s suppliers is a great fan of the Swedish hockey team HV71. 2011 marked the teams 40th birthday, and the supplier wished to provide the team with a great and useful gift.

He therefore turned to us at OFFECCT, asking us to chose one of our products and costum make it for the team. We chose the easy chair OYSTER HIGH, a product that could easily be adapted in terms of color, and which would look great with broidery.

OYSTER was given the colors of the team; blue and yellow, and four stars were embroidered on the top. These stars represent the four golds the team has won in the Swedish Championship.

Embroidered between the stars is the word “Stjärnfotöljen”; Swedish for “the star easy chair.” The chair was made to be used for very special occasions and events.

The team was thrilled to receive this special gift, and assured that it would indeed be used for such special occasions.

More information about the original OYSTER HIGH – designed by Michael Sodeau – can be found here >>

#healthcare #design

Design in healthcare environments is important, and maybe even more so in children’s hospital environments. When a child is sick, both the child and the parents are stressed, and an environment that can turn their attention towards something else can mean a lot.

At Queen Silvia’s Children and Youth Hospital, Östra Sjukhuset in Gothenburg, OFFECCT is contributing to a better care environment for sick kids. In total four rooms at the hospital have been renovated by BittraBritta, a Gothenburg-based interior design company. The interior designers chose to use furniture from OFFECCT because of the environmental standard OFFECCT maintains, and because of the good quality, the local production and the adaptability of the furniture in terms of size and color.

Already before the renovation the hospital had a jungle theme with photographs of animals on the walls. With the renovation the interior designers wanted to go all the way with this theme. Each renovated room has been given a distinct theme accompanied by a story about an animal. In each room the children can read the story about the life of the animal.

Courtesy of BittraBritta

One of the waiting rooms is Lisa the Chimpanzee’s room. The color of the room are those of bananas; brown, yellow and green. The Palma chairs from OFFECCT are perfect for the room. The smaller ones are perfect for one person, and in the bigger ones a parent can sit together with the child. The shape of the chair is like a leaf that embraces the person sitting in it, giving a sense of protection.

Courtesy of BittraBritta

In the other waiting room the children find Peppe the Parrot. This room has been given the vivid colors of a parrot, and is accompanied by OFFECCT’s Flower. The bigger Flower serves as table and the smaller ones as stools for the children. With their soft texture Flower fitted well into the environment.

Courtesy of BittraBritta

The two examination rooms are inhabited by Siv the Zebra and Lelle the Leopard. The rooms look the same apart from the color setting that corresponds to the animal of the room. The OFFECCT Palma chairs have been used in both rooms, and have been upholstered to match the rooms.

Courtesy of BittraBritta

The new rooms were inaugurated on December 15, 2011.

The environment in health facilities is most often associated with functionality. However, research today shows that poor interior design can have negative health effects and that by producing a more sound and beautiful interior, patients as well as staff profit.

During this year OFFECCT has had its furniture introduced into a number of projects within the healthcare environment throughout Europe. One of these is the St Gallen public hospital in Switzerland. The interior architects of the hospital chose products from the Bond series to improve the interiors of the hospital. Important considerations by the architects were questions of quality and fire safety, and they felt that the Bond products corresponded well with their demands.

St Gallen

Weight loss company Xtravaganza in Finland has also chosen to make their interior environment more inspiring. The company chose products from the series Bond, Spoon, Flower and Cornflake among others for the many meeting rooms at their headquarters. Not only inspiring for creative meetings, it was also important to the company that the furniture was eco labeled.

Two clinics in Sweden have also chosen to purchase design furniture from OFFECCT. One of them is the dental practice Tandhälsan in Skövde, who highly value locally manufactured products, proximity to service as well as prompt delivery and therefore decided to choose OFFECCT.

Another Swedish company is the aesthetic surgery practice Art Clinic and their facility in Jönköping. Art Clinic wanted to create an exclusive and distinctive environment corresponding to their corporate identity. By installing furniture from OFFECCT the company not only met these requirements, but also their standards of eco labeled Swedish furniture.
