Plaza Interiör at Offecct showroom

The Swedish magazine Plaza Interiör recently had a release party at our showroom in Stockholm, and featured an article about it. Our venue and furniture were greatly appreciated!

The Salone del Mobile in Milano this spring generated a lot of interest, and articles. Here is one from Sydsvenskan showing our Duo Wood by Patrick Norguet. Duo Wood is a small chair with a clear design language that is easy to read. Duo Wood is a natural continuation and variation of Duo, and has been given a softer side. The use of wood in the construction gives a more sensual and almost a homely feeling.

The new products of 2012 generated a lot of intereste a well. Here is an article in Dagens Nyheter, featuring Layer designed by Läufer + Keichel. The easy chair Layer is characterized by three layers, which can be varied in terms of textile and color in order to create a unique design. The first layer can be compared to a stool, the second layer to a chair and the third layer creates the final form; an easy chair.

For 2011, OFFECCT gave Patrick Norguet a design brief to develop a space-saving upholstered chair with great comfort.

Patrick’s answer to this brief is DUO – a space-saving upholstered, comfortable chair with or without arm rests. DUO is very graphic in its shape, with a seat consisting of two halves with the option to choose two different colors.

OFFECCT Voices: Preview #5 – Patrick Norguet on OFFECCT

In our fifth preview from the book “OFFECCT – Voices: Furniture, passion and entrepreneurs” French designer Patrick Norguet shares his views on OFFECCT:

“Before I began developing any projects for OFFECCT, it was important for me to better understand the culture of the company and its context within the Scandinavian countries. To me, OFFECCT embodies the values that I constantly seek – intelligent design with a modernist approach and a respect and responsibility for the environment. There is great synergy between the people involved – they possess and encourage and positive dialogue that is, in a word, ‘Modern.’”

Report from Kulturhaupstadt Europas – OFFECCT at the Red Dot Design Award Ceremony

As mentioned in an earlier blog post, Patrick Norguet’s Fly chair, and the acoustic panel Soundwave Geo designed by Ineke Hans was chosen to receive the Red Dot Design Award for 2010 earlier this year, and now the awards were presented at the Aalto-Theater in Essen.

Since Essen and the Ruhr area is the 2010 European Capital of Culture, the award ceremony included cultural features such as Russian virtuoso pianist Nikolai Tokarev, and the Aalto Ballett Theater Essen performing pieces from the ballet “La Vie en Rose” by Ben Van Cauwenbergh.

The Red Dot jury about Norguet’s FLY:

“Fly presents itself in an organic design language. Because very little energy is necessary for making the fabric, the chair meets the demands for sustainable production.”

Our Parisian Love Affair: FLY Awarded at Designer’s Days

Just back from Paris we are proud to report from Designer’s Days in Paris, where OFFECCT and French designer Patrick Norguet recieved the Entreprise Designer award for our FLY chair.

Designer’s Days is celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2010. For the past ten years, Designer’s Days has become a summer rendez-vous attended by designers, architects, interior decorators, brand ambassadors and collectors alike.

The Entreprise Designer award was delivered by L’Express Style and Maison Française, and OFFECCT got a lot of appraisal for our sustainable design philosophy. We also got a lot of media attention from French television as well as from international press covering the event. Examples: L’Express; Liberation; La boite a sorties (blog).

This wonderful Parisian love affair was concluded by a terrific party at the docks of the river Seine, attended by more than 1500 representatives of France’s design elite.

We are thrilled that our collaboration with Patrick has been so well received. Besides the award at Desginer’s Days, FLY received the Red Dot Design Award earlier this spring.

Fly and Geo Connecting the Red Dots: Design as an Investment and Driving Force for Growth and Value Creation

Patrick Norguet’s Fly chair, and the acoustic panel Soundwave Geo designed by Ineke Hans has been chosen by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen to receive the Red Dot Design Award for 2010. Norguet’s Fly chair has been presented in an earlier blog post, and we will soon tell you more about Soundwave Geo.

The Red Dot Design Award is one of the most prestigous international design awards, honoring outstanding design quality and trendsetters. The award was established in 1955, and in 2009 it received over 12,000 submissions from over 60 countries.

New for 2010 is the book “Desing Value: A Strategy for Business Success” by design expert Professor Dr. Peter Zec and Burkhard Jacob. In this book a method to measure the value which companies generate through design is presented. Some interesting findings in Design Value:

  • Research show that companies which invest in innovative and welldesigned products in the long-term and use design as a strategic leadership instrument often achieve above-average profit and sales figures as well as clear advantages over competitors.
  • Jacob and Zec have developed a formula which makes it possible for to calculate the previously rather intangible design value and thus to identify, assess, and compare design as a value driver in companies.
  • The basis for this is the analysis of the results of the red dot design award, which made it possible to determine the design strength and design continuity of companies and to compare them with the company s performance.

We will continue to follow this research with interest, and it its gratifying to get scientific support for our conviction that great design means great business.
