Dezeen’s article about Studio can be found here >>

Airberg, which has come out of our new initiative OFFECCT LAB, is an innovative piece of furniture that breaks with conventions. The inspiration behind the form of Airberg is a combination of a comfortable, inviting piece of seating furniture and an iceberg filled with vacuum. The furniture’s abstract form is light in its expression and Airberg is contemporary both in its design and in the technique used.

Airberg consists of a structural case which gives the impression of being filled with a vacuum, but is in reality filled with a flexible padding material. The unique craftsmanship used in the production of Airberg makes it possible to create a deconstructed piece of furniture that is more defined in its asymmetry. Jean-Marie Massaud has created a piece of furniture that is comfortable, sustainable and competent, making it highly contemporary.

Flexible Interiors With ISLANDS

We are currently showcasing our new products in Milan, and one of them is Jean-Marie Massaud’s Islands. Islands is a system of seating furniture that creates the feeling of small islands or coral reefs and provides space for informal meetings, while shielding the people sitting on an ”island” from those sitting on the adjacent ”islands” with the help of different materials and different heights.

OFFECCT-Islands-2

Islands by Jean-Marie Massaud

This feeling can also be enhanced by plants placed at designated spaces in the furniture. Different seating levels and different materials give the furniture flexibility and do not lock the user to a certain behavior.

With Islands Jean-Marie Massaud wants to reformulate public interiors such as waiting areas and lobbies. In order to achieve this Massaud has created a flexible and functional furniture system that easily can be adjusted to different surroundings and contexts.

OFFECCT_Islands-3

Islands by Jean-Marie Massaud

- Islands is not a classical piece of seating furniture; it is more abstract with different parts that together form an entirety. It stands for innovation, says Jean-Marie Massaud.

Massaud’s designs are characterized by an understanding of the surrounding world and he creates designs through a holistic approach that captures the zeitgeist in an interesting way. Massaud has been named Designer of the Year several times and has worked with companies such as Cacharel, Lancôme and Renault.

Sound absorbing SOUNDWAVE® PIX

In Milan at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile we are currently presenting the news of 2013. On of these novelties is the sound absorbing panel Soundwave® Pix, created by the French designer Jean-Marie Massaud.

Soundwave® Pix provides architects with the possibility to create unique rooms by offering the option to combine colors and forms in different ways. Soundwave® Pix complements the sound absorbing function with the potential of esthetic variation in terms of the color and form options. The design of Pix in itself is a reminder of keys on a keyboard, and radiates a sense of recognition that also surprises.

Innovative Experiments at OFFECCT Lab

At Offecct we have a history of developing innovative solutions and products with high design ambitions. One of these initiatives is a long lasting program to develop furniture for activity-based workplaces that we call Offecct Lab. Offeccts Lab is an overall strategic initiative designed to concentrate our efforts in the development of new solutions and new products.

– In the establishment of OFFECCT LAB we challenge ourselves and our designers in order to develop proactive and innovative ways to test the limits of the meeting places of the future, says Kurt Tingdal, CEO, Offecct.

The two first tangible results of the work of Offect Lab are Airberg and Cape that are currently exposed at the StockholmFurniture Fair.

Airberg is a challenging piece of seating furniture designed by Jean-Marie Massaud, and a result of our experiments with new seating typologies.

Cape is a complex chair with an exciting look, with ultra-thin dimensions and a very low weight, made possible through the collaboration between Offecct and Swedish Steel AB in the development of new steel materials.

Islands of Possibilities

Jean-Marie Massaud has designed several products for us this year. One of them is Islands, a system of seating furniture for public interiors such as waiting rooms and lobbies.

To do this Massaud created a flexible and functional furniture that can be easily adapted to the surrounding environment.

OFFECCT_Islands-1

Islands by Jean-Marie Massaud

Islands creates a feeling of small islands or coral reefs and provides spaces for informal meetings. The design of Islands, tables and seating areas in different heights, ensures that people sitting on one island are shielded or cut off from people on another island, thereby providing intimacy. This feeling can further be heightened by installing plants at different places in the construction.

– Islands is not a classic seating furniture, it is more abstract with its different parts that together create an entity. It stands for innovation, says Jean-Marie Massaud.
