Amazonas and the Nordic Ecolabel “Svanen”

During the Stockholm Furniture Fair the Nordic Ecolabel (called “Svanen” in Swedish) launched a competition with an excellent prize to win: our Amazonas table. The lucky winner of the quiz was Evy Eriksson in Anderstorp, Sweden. Congratulations!

The prize of the competition was a gift from us here at Offecct. Amazonas is designed by Eero Koivisto. The concept for the Amazonas table series originated when Eero Koivisto saw aerial photographs of the Amazon rain forest where the tree crowns created a dense ceiling. Koivisto wanted the tables to be poetic and thought provoking.

Not only is Amazonas itself labeled with the Nordic Ecolabel, but parts of the revenue from the tables go to the Children’s Rainforest, a Swedish nonprofit organization working to preserve the rain forest and animals in Central America. Amazonas has also earned the Green Dot Awards, one of the world’s most prestigious green awards.

The Nordic Ecolabel is a voluntary ecolabelling scheme that evaluates a product’s impact on the environment throughout the whole life cycle. The label guarantees among other things that climate requirements are taken into account, and that CO2 emissions (and other harmful gasses) are limited – where it is most relevant.

When you buy a Nordic Ecolabelled product or services, you as a consumer contribute to a more sustainable environment.

The Nordic Ecolabel recently increased the requirements put on products that want to earn the label. This is a way of driving the development of a sustainable society. All the companies that have previously had Nordic Ecolabbeled products must try their products according to the new requirements, and apply for a new license. The new requirements focus on the origin of wood products, that plastic used should be recycled, and that the levels chemicals allowed has been restricted.

Winter Wonderland

Lately Sweden has been transformed into a truly Christmasy Winter Wonderland. What better way to bring this feeling inside than to furnish your interiors with our  Snowflakes table.

Installation with Snowflakes

The Snowflakes table is designed by Claesson Koivisto Rune, and just like the real snowflakes covering our streets, every Snowflake table is unique. Claesson Koivisto Rune were inspiration by photographer Wilson Bentley who devoted his career to documenting the uniqueness of snowflakes with his camera.

Every unique table patterna is randomly generated by a computer. We made this possible in 2010 when we introduced an innovative production method that allows us to combine unique design with serial production.

Snowflakes’ table top is glacier white, just like its stand. The stand is available in three different heights, making the possibility for variation infinite.

Float High Auctioned at Bukowskis

#design #bukowskis

One of our beautiful Float High easy chairs is up for auction at Bukowskis. It is upholstered in a skyblue fabric, and has cushions in a striped multicolored fabric.

Bukowskis is the Nordic leading art business. Founded in 1870 by Polish nobleman Henryk Bukowski, Bukowskis have conducted the greatest auctions in Sweden for the past 140 years, including the collection of King Charles XV in 1873 and the estate of Master director Ingmar Bergman in 2009.

Float High by Claesson Koivisto Rune

The creation of Float High was made with an architectural approach with the goal of creating low-key furniture with a strong sense of presence – something that is very obvious in this easy chair. The design was prompted by Koivisto’s own needs, which involved a lot of travelling and many meetings in public settings.

Below some other versions of Float.

Eero Koivisto himself says of the creation: “I noticed the same behavior in everyone involved in business meetings. People lean forward in the very low seats, try to conceal their computer screen, and hold their hand around their mouth while talking on their mobile phone. I wondered whether I could create a piece of furniture that felt like it was a small, separate room. I started with Float, which I had previously designed for Offecct, and pulled up the edges just far enough so that when you sit up very straight you can see over the edge, but when you sit back you get a private and secluded space.”

Float is a series of easy chairs and sofas available with the backrest and sides in different heights.

Salone del Mobile News #11: FASTBACK by Claesson Koivisto Rune

Our collaboration with Claesson Koivisto Rune goes back 20 years. For this years collection, the design trio has designed two products for Offecct, one of them being FASTBACK.

Fastback by Offecct and Claesson Koivisto Rune

FASTBACK is an upholstered conference chair. The chair has an excellent comfort; even when you have been sitting for a really long time the chair remains comfortable. This is the result of our use of the technology used in car sears, where the secret lies with the use of suspension systems.

Fastback by Offecct and Claesson Koivisto Rune

Fastback by Offecct and Claesson Koivisto Rune

FASTBACK has a soft, yet alert and crisp design language. The chair is characterized by its rounded angles, which is not only a visual characteristic but a feature that adds to the comfort; when one changes seating position one does not encounter hard or uncomfortable angles. FASTBACK is available as a chair and an armchair.

Salone del Mobile News #4: NOBIS by Claesson Koivisto Rune

#salone #salonedelmobile

Claesson Koivisto Rune has designed two new products for this year’s collection, one of the being NOBIS, a table that was originally created for the new luxury hotel Nobis in Stockholm where Claesson Koivisto Rune were responsible for the interior design.

The trio designed the table for the Gold Bar of the hotel. NOBIS was initially produced entirely in brass. We all thought that the result was very successful and decided this year to develop a whole product line with the name NOBIS.

NOBIS has a distinguished characteristic with a form that can be described as a sort of round square, that is to say, the square that constitutes the table top has no sharp angles but is characterized by a round softness.

This particular form, even though present everywhere in our surrounding, often goes unnoticed. But the form can for example be found in soaps, spoons and old TV-sets. So the form is not new, and can be expressed with the help of a mathematical formula that Claesson Koivisto Rune departed from when the design program for NOBIS was created.
