Claesson Koivisto Rune’s New Pals

Nobis Hotel – Stockholm’s latest first class hotel – opened in late 2010.

“Located in two historic late 19th-century buildings on Norrmalmstorg square in the heart of downtown Stockholm, Nobis Hotel is an independent 201-room hotel offering every convenience and service any business and/or pleasure traveler could ever call for, in an environment of casual elegance. Our mission is to provide our guests with nothing but superior quality in every detail — plus something more in addition to that. We like to think that nothing in our hotel is standard or routine, but always with something extra to add quality to our guests’ experiences.

Nobis Hotel has been designed for optimal function, beauty, comfort and atmosphere by world renowned Swedish star architect studio Claesson Koivisto Rune, in a style of contemporary yet timeless and classic, durable elegance, mainly in natural materials of superior quality, subtly influenced by the colors, moods and features of our Swedish Royal Capital.” (source: nobishotel.com

The hotel’s 201 rooms are of varying sizes and one of the challenges for Claesson Koivisto Rune and OFFECCT was to develop an easy chair that would fit well in the larger as well as in the smaller rooms.

After some intense research and development the easy chair Pal is now being launched, combining two chairs in one in a cunning way. Depending on where the legs are mounted Pal can either be a larger and lower chair with a lounge character, or a smaller chair with a higher backrest.

The inspiration behind the name Pal simply comes from the English word for a friend – or a pal.

”When we saw the two versions next to each other, we realized that they reminded us of a nice couple or two very good friends who in a good way completes each other,” says Eero Koivisto.

At Last – OFFECCT In Collaboration With FRONT

We have wanted to collaborate for a while and have always been impressed by OFFECCT’s commitment to material experimentation and great finishing,” says FRONT.

FRONT in front of Green Pedestals at the Stockholm Furniture Fair 2011

FRONT in front of Green Pedestals at the Stockholm Furniture Fair 2011

And since the ambition to work together has been mutual, we are very happy to launch our first product designed by FRONT: GREEN PEDESTALS.

Green Pedestals is part of OFFECCT’s O2asis project which is an assortment of design products, that combined with vegetation enhances and adds value to the work environment, specifically through a conscious use of greenery and an improved air quality.

We were inspired by traditional pedestals. We think that the pedestal is a fantastic piece of furniture that needs a revival. With slim legs that are slightly irregular Green Pedestals receives a kind of a personality”, FRONT continues

Green Pedestals can be used as a room element, functioning as a room for divider example, which can be seen in Front’s sketch below:

Front is one of the most successful contemporary design groups. Front consists of Sofia Lagerkvist, Charlotte von der Lancken, Anna Lindgren. Front work on all of their projects as a collective, so that discussions and experimentation makes it possible to develop contemporary world-class design. Front has been published widely in international design press and their work has been exhibited at MoMA in New York, the Pompidou Centre in Paris and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. In 2010 Front received the highly prestigious Torsten and Wanja Söderberg Prize for their innovative and creative design.

OFFECCT is one of the most interesting and important Swedish design companies, and we think it’s very inspiring to work with OFFECCT. We see Green Pedestals as a first step on our common road ahead,” FRONT concludes.

Luca Nichetto’s Green Pads Creating Masterpieces in Office Interiors

Last year our first project together with Venetian designer Luca Nichetto, the Robo chair, was a great success.

This year Luca has designed a product for our new O2asis-concept called Green Pads. O2asis is an assortment of design products, which together with flowers and plants enhances and adds value to the work environment, not least through an improved indoor air quality.

When designing Green Pads, Luca was inspired by the architecture in the 1950s when vegetation was an integral part of architectural projects. When Luca saw the result of his development process, he immediately thougt of French artist Claude Monet’s legendary paintings of water lilies in Giverny.

It’s Time for Smalltalk – A room within a room

Smalltalk is a unique piece of furniture created to provide secluded spaces in open office interiors of today.

"Smalltalk is built on a metal frame, a higher table, a rubber mat and a screen of a sound absorbing material. The fact that the screen is folded, or pleated if you like, breaks the sound waves very efficiently and thus creates a kind of a refuge where one can go away for conversation and creativity."

Smalltalk is designed by Stefan Sjölander and Pierre Sindre from CREOARK with input from Patrik Bengtsson:

“The initial idea was to get inspiration from typical architectural expressions. Our choice fell on a lamp with its lampshade creating a secluded milieu for discussions and other tasks. We were also inspired by the street lamp, whose light beam creates space and security in outdoor environments”

The spirit of Smalltalk expressed by Stefan Sjölander in his own words:

“A private zone, in a free area, a room within a room

Go for a small talk, not for disturbing the peace, or make noice

In form and material, a visible mode of expression, in safety and harmony”

A less poetic point of reference could be the classical phone booth creating refuges for intimate conversations in a noisy environment.

Smalltalk could be described in many ways, but one thing is clear – there is a huge demand for furniture creating rooms within rooms in contemporary offices of today.

“Nothing beats the original!”

During the 2011 Stockholm Furniture Fair OFFECCT takes part in a seminar on piracy arranged by the National Trade and Employers’ Association of the Wood Processing and Furniture Industry in Sweden (TMF – Trä- och Möbelföretagen). The seminar is the starting point for the TMFs campaign against piracy within the furniture industry.

Intellectual property rights and the avoidance of piracy is an important issue that the members of the furniture industry to focus on. In 2011, TMF launches a campaign against piracy, “Nothing beats the original.”

OFFECCT’s CEO Kurt Tingdal was a speaker at the seminar sharing his and OFFECCT’s views and experiences of piracy. One aspect that OFFECCT thinks is important is that anti-piracy policies becomes a natural part of procurements. Kurt also underlined that even if piracy is often seen as a problem from the Far East it is evident that this is a problem even in our own neighbourhood.
