The 2011 edition of the Stockholm Furniture Fair is coming up early next year, and OFFECCT will present a large number of interesting news – including the book OFFECCT Voices: Furniture, Passion and Entrepreneurship – in conjunction with the fair.
We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the fair, but first we would like to take the opportunity to thank you for your cooperation during 2010.
Europe is covered in snow. Lots of snow. And media is covering snow. Swedish largest daily Dagens Nyheter recently published an article with the heading “Clear as Crystal that every Snowflake is Unique”.
Every Snowflake is Unique
“All snowflakes have six edges, otherwise, they are unique.”
Snowflakes is designed by our design partner Claesson Koivisto Rune, who got creative inspiration from photographer Wilson Bentley. Bentley – dubbed the Snowflake Man – devoted his career to capture snowflakes with his camera, being fascinated by the fact that “every (snow)crystal was a masterpiece of design and no one design was ever repeated.”
The same goes for our Snowflakes table, where our computer aided production method make sure that we achieve the same variation as that found in snowflakes. Snowflakes is a small, useful table available in three different heights in order to increase the possible variations and usages.
OFFECCT has been visited by Saint Lucy and her procession performing traditional songs and hymns.
Saint Lucy at OFFECCT
“Saint Lucy’s Day or the Feast of St. Lucy is the Church feast day dedicated to St. Lucy and is observed on December 13, and is generally associated primarily with Sweden.
In traditional celebrations, Saint Lucy comes as a young woman with lights and sweets. A procession is headed by one girl wearing a crown of candles, while others in the procession hold only a single candle each.
The women sing a Lucia song while entering the room, to the melody of the traditional Neapolitan song Santa Lucia. After finishing this song, the procession sings Christmas carols or more songs about Lucia.” (Source: Wikipedia)

The visit of Saint Lucy is indeed a perfect start for the Yuletide season!
As mentioned in an earlier blog post, OFFECCT’s founders Kurt Tingdal, CEO and Anders Englund, wanted to arrange an evening full of surprises to show gratitude towards everyone who has made OFFECCT’s success possible.
This event was very much a product of participation between OFFECCT’s founders Kurt Tingdal, CEO and Anders Englund, Design Manager. Anders and Kurt held everyone – including OFFECCT’s employees – in suspense as their idea for the anniversary was to arrange an evening full of surprises to show gratitude towards everyone who has made OFFECCT’s success possible. (We will tell you more about the surprises in future blog posts.)
OFFECCT 20 Years - The Talkshow with Kurt Tingdal
Instead of giving conventional formal speeches Kurt, Anders and a number of employees and partners were interviewed by a talk show host (Peter Wanselius). The message that both Kurt and Anders came back to again and again during the night was the importance of OFFECCT’s employees as well as partners:
“Philosophically, we talked a lot about trees in relation to the branches: there are many companies that are heavily focused on the fruits of their trees and they would only like to have trees with good fruits. But the fruits are also only the consequence of what the roots can do. So, turn the tree upside down and focus on the roots: the roots could be your employees, your collaborating designers, your suppliers, your clients etc. If you focus in on the roots, then you grow the best fruits in the end, from which you can earn money. So we have turned around our thinking – if we prepare and nurture our roots properly, then I predict that our fruits will taste great!” (Kurt Tingdal, CEO)
OFFECCT 20 Years - Kurt Tingdal and Anders Englund, back in the days
“Managing the staff is similar to managing a football team – the employees are the team and we need a goalkeeper, defenders, strikers and many other professionals to make up this team. If we are going to have games seven days a week, we are going to be totally exhausted after a week or two. So we must be on a training camp the whole time, that’s important.” (Kurt Tingdal, CEO)
The Gala Dinner was held in our showroom in our Tibro headquarters, specially decorated in order to commemorate OFFECCT’s first 20 years.

OFFECCT 20 Years - The Menu
The wine served together with the Seared Cod – the Schloss Johannisberger Rheingau Riesling QbA 2008 – was also served at the Royal Wedding of Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel earlier this summer.
In order to celebrate OFFECCT’s 20th Anniversary we arranged a Gala Dinner for our employees and some of our clients and partners at our head office in Tibro, Sweden.
Tibro welcomed our guests with a very wintry landscape and low temperatures, but inside a warm OFFECCT building we were overwhelmed by all the nice gifts and flowers that our guests brougt us – thank you!
OFFECCT 20 Years - Thank you!
We will continue to tell you more about our anniversary in future blog posts.
